Vigo Open: The Italians passed in Previa

The third stage of the World Padel Tour has begun: the Vigo Open with many Italian players in the field right away.

In the Sunday afternoon in Vigo Petrelli-Stellato faced at 5pm the strong spanish players Lourdes Pascual (n°65) and Carmen García Pardo (n°69) losing 6-2/6-4.
Also at 5 pm Chiara Pappacena – Giorgia Marchetti, already qualified for the second roaund of the previa, played their first match against the couple formed by the Portuguese Catarina Castro Vilela (n°105) and the Spanish Rebeca Lopez Lopez (n°97) winning with pain for 7-5/4-6/6-4.
At 6pm Roberta Vinci and Giulia Sussarello played again against the Spanish Maria E. Rodriguez (n°142) and Mireia Herrada Ruiz (n°89) winning 6-3/7-5.
In the evening Lorena Vano, paired with Ana Sejas, lost against Marta Borrero (no.120) and Alejandra Alonso (no.107) 6-4/6-2.

Monday previa

At 9 a.m. Vinci-Sussarello will face Spanish No. 5 seed Sara Pujals (No. 58) and Nicole Traviesa (No. 72) in a very open match.
Carlotta Casali, returning from injury, paired with Patricia Martinez will begin her tournament directly from the first round of the preliminaries at 10am on Monday.
Also at 10 am, Pappacena-Marchetti will face the No. 2 seed Julia Polo (No. 55) and Cecilia Reiter (No. 35), a very difficult task for our players.

The only Italian player who has already qualified for the Cuadro Final is Carolina Orsi who, together with the Spanish player Sandra Bellver, will face the tough Spanish players Carmen Goenaga (world no. 27, class 2004) and Beatriz Caldera (no. 27, class 2001) who reached the quarter finals at the Reus Open.

The first round of previa on Sunday morning

The first Italians to take the field for the previa of the third stage of the World Padel Tour were the couple Carolina PetrelliEmily Stellato against Ana Dominguez Gracia (No. 164 in the ranking, class of 2005!) and Marina Pinacho (No. 79). The match was expected to be balanced but our players were able to win it easily in two sets 6-3/6-2.
At 12 noon it was the turn of Roberta Vinci and Giulia Sussarello who maintained their prediction against Natalia Sanz Garcia (no. 153) and Laia Bonilla Torres (no. 96), an easy victory with a double 6-0 for them.
Valentina Tommasi and Eugenia Guimet against the Spanish Martina Fassio (n°80) and Ainhoa Rico Martín (n°84) were defeated 6-2/6-4.
At 1pm another match with the Italian Lorena Vano paired with Ana Sejas against the Portuguese Patrícia Ribeiro (n°92) and the young Spanish Letizia Manquillo (n°130), the Italian-Spanish won 6-2/6-4.

Women’s ranking updated before Vigo Open

At the top of the ranking is confirmed Gemma Triay followed by her partner Alejandra Salazar and in the podium Ari Sanchez.
But positive news for ours.
Carolina Orsi is the best classified with 881 points at 53rd place (she gains 3 places compared to last week), followed in the virtual podium of the Italians Giulia Sussarello (57th with 807) and Chiara Pappacena (n°60 with 743).
Carlotta Casali is in 77th place (position confirmed) and Giorgia Marchetti in 78th place.
Also among the top 100 we have Lorena Vano (88th place), Valentina Tommasi at 94th and Emily Stellato at 95th.
Roberta Vinci (119th) and Carolina Petrelli (130th) are doing very well, Alessia La Monaca (135th) and Francesca Ligotti (150th) are also in the top 150.
